Merry Christmas

Wishing everyone a merry, Merry and Blessed Christmas.  It is now 15 minutes after midnight in my part of Kentucky and the roads are covered with black ice.  Fortunately, Santa travels by sleigh rather than automobile, so he is safe.  I hope everyone else drives safely so they can arrive at their destinations without incident.

My own preparations have been ongoing for several months and I’m not sure at this time if I’m behind for this Christmas or ahead for next year. I’ve attached several of the pillows, tote bags and the top left is a small quilt for my grandson,  Noah.  The photos that are not my own are all downloaded from Pinterest.

Again, I wish for each of you a Merry Happy and Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year,

      1. I do have some vague memories of those days but they are fading fast. I don’t have dementia, just MS! And I love telling my kids that. But since all I have to do to fall asleep now is try to watch a movie I’ve been waiting a long time to see. For some reason movies put me out like a light and keep me out for a long time.

      2. Hah! My daughter, who is a young 48 years of age, falls asleep before the credits are done rolling if she tries to watch a movie! And she doesn’t have MS or anything else … well, a 12-14 hour-a-day job … 😉

      3. 12 HOURS A DAY WOULD DO IT FOR ME. COME TO THINK OF IT, WHEN I WAS WORKING IN THE NURSING HOME I ONCE WORKED ALL THREE SHIFTS BECAUSE NO ONE SHOWED UP FOR FIRST OR THIRD AND I WAS SCHEDULED FOR SECOND. LEFT THERE AND WENT TO HOSPICE SOON AFTER THAT ONE.

      4. I don’t think I realized you were a nurse … or if I did know it, I’ve forgotten, which is quite possible with my mind these days 😉 Daughter Chris is also a nurse. She is a nursing supervisor for a large urology practice in Cincinnati.

      5. MY YOUNGEST SISTER IS A NURSE BUT I;M A CNA. I DID HOME HEALTH FOR HOSPICE AS A NURSE ASSISTANT, AND IN THE NURSING HOMES JUST RAN MYSELF RAGGED TRYING TO ANSWER THE LIGHTS THAT WERE BEING PUSHED. ON MY FLOOR WE HAD THE WORST GROUP OF BUTTON PUSHERS IN THE BUILDING — SOME OF THEM JUST LONELY AND SOME WHO PUSHED WITHOUT MEANING TO BECAUSE THEY WOULDN’T PUT THAT LIGHT DOWN. I HAD ONE WOMAN WHO WANTED TO BE WAITED ON CONSTANTLY. ONE HORRIBLE NIGHT SHE WAS IN BED AND I ANSWERED HER LIGHT AND SHE ASKED ME IF I WOULD GET HER A COUGH DROP. THINKING IT MUST BE IN ONE OF THE DRAWERS I ASKED WHERE THEY WERE AND SHE SAID THEY WERE ON HER BEDSIDE TABLE — ABOUT 6 INCHES FROM HER HAND. MANAGED TO KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT WHILE I PICKED IT UP AND HANDED IT TO HER, JUST GOT OUT THE DOOR WHEN SHE HAD THE LIGHT ON AGAIN. WENT IN AGAIN AND SHE WANTED ME TO UNWRAP IT. DID THAT AND OUT THE DOOR AGAIN — LIGHT BACK ON. WENT BACK AND ASKED HER IF SHE WANTED ME TO SUCK IT FOR HER TOO,THEN LEFT THE ROOM TO TELL THE CHARGE NURSE WHAT I HAD SAID. NURSE WENT TO HER ROOM BECAUSE THE LIGHT WAS ON AGAIN AND TOLD HER I WOULD BE THE ONLY ONE ANSWERING HER LIGHT THE REMAINDER OF THE SHIFT AND IF SHE PUSHED THAT LIGHT FOR NO GOOD REASON AGAIN SHE WOULD BE MOVED TO ANOTHER FLOOR . SHE WAS ONE OF THREE WHO WOULD DO THAT CONSTANTLY, BUT FOR THE MOST PART I LOVED WORKING THERE. NEVER WANTED TO BE A NURSE BECAUSE OF THE MATH REQUIREMENT! JUST THINKING ABOUT ALL THE MATH YOU HAVE TO TAKE GAVE ME A HEADACHE!

      6. You absolutely have more patience than I. As I was reading about your obnoxious patient, I was thinking that she would have been lucky to have no broken bones under my “tender loving care” and I would have been lucky not to have landed in prison! That is half the reason I could never have been a nurse. The other half is that I don’t like to touch strangers’ body parts!

  1. BELIEVE IT OR NOT SHE WAS ONE OF THE LESS OBNOXIOUS — MORE LIKE AN ANNOYANCE. THERE WERE OTHERS THAT WERE REALLY DIFFICULT TO HANDLE! I FELT SORRY FOR HER MOST OF THE TIME — ONLY ONE VISITOR ONCE A MONTH KINDA MAKES PEOPLE FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE TO DO THINGS LIKE THAT TO GET A LITTLE BIT OF HUMAN CONTACT WITH STAFF WHO ARE TOO BUSY FOR MUCH ONE ON ONE WITH THEM. BUT THERE WERE TIMES! DEFINITELY, THERE WERE TIMES!
