Our little guy is almost completely out of danger now. The latest news from Mike is that all tubes and lines will be removed today. He is breathing on his own, heart and lungs are better and he is moving around more each day and letting them know in a loud manner when he objects to something they are doing. Thank you for your prayers. Our little miracle will someday thank you himself. Now I’m going to play the great grandma role to the hilt by insisting they bring that little sweetie for a visit as soon as they can safely take him out.
Wow! I just took the first deep breath I’ve had for over a week now. I think my first move will be to tell my grandson about his aunt and how much we have all been pulling for Asher. I do have another photo to put in here if I can remember how, but for right now I’m going to just sit here and breathe!
I think I’ll tell you about the birthday party we had on Sunday afternoon. I know I’ve talked about Jennifer before. Her b’day would have been Sunday if she had lived but instead it had always been a day of mourning for me. But this year I met a young man in this new place who was also born on October 9. He has — or I should say “had” never had a party and wasn’t looking forward to this year’s birthday either. So, some of us got together and had a pizza party for him. We ordered a cake with race cars on the top. I had to laugh when he asked how we knew he likes cars. Didn’t bother telling him it was because he talks about them at every meal. He was so sweet, didn’t know what to do first but then solved the problem by taking the cars off the cake and playing with them on the table. Did I mention that the birthday boy turned 62 on Sunday? He still has some of the little boy qualities in him and I’m loving the effects.
Just a short post today. I have some celebrating to do and my back already hurts from leaning over the sewing machine this morning. Later, and I haven’t forgotten the photo. Just putting it off until I can safely attempt the search and download.

This is the first photo with his eye open looking at grandpa! Sorry about the size. Not sure how to handle the editing on WP.
I’m so relieved that Asher is doing so much better!! I’ll take that deep breath with you! You are so good to have had the birthday party for the older youth! I bet he will be playing with those cars for a very long time!!!

I think I forgot to mention that the older “boy” is now 62, but he really is playing with those cars. Hard to believe there are people his age who have never had a party isn’t it?
Asher is now off all but the oxygen and they are cutting it back in small increments today. Hopefully tomorrow they will be able to hold him for the first time. And thanks for taking that big breath with me. It felt so good!

I am so so so glad to hear that Asher is out of the woods and will soon be going home!!! I hope Grannie gets to see him SOON and hold him and tell him in person just how very much she loves him. I know you’ve shed more than a few tears, my friend, and now you’re shedding tears of relief and joy. I wish I were there to give you a huge HUG, but know that in my heart I am sending you one.
The birthday ‘boy’ made me smile … a genuine, bit smile!!! How thoughtful, how caring … you and your friends have hearts of gold! Love you, dear friend! ❤

Oh, gee! One of the ladies is calling me an angel! It just seemed like the right thing to do so I did it. Just so happy others joined to make it a real party. Matt is still talking about it so I think I’ll have to think hard about the other two guys at my table. I hate to leave anyone out.
Asher is now free of the tubes and they are cutting the oxygen back a little at a time today. They will do an MRI when he is off the O2 to check for any brain damage, so we are all still praying, but you are right about Granny wanting to give him a big hug. They might have to pry him out of my hands! Thanks for all your support and good wishes.

Well … you are, after all, “kentuckyangel24”!!! And you do have a good heart, my friend. I think you did a beautiful thing!
Oh I’m so happy that Asher is tube-free! Keeping my fingers crossed for more good news when they do the MRI. Keep me posted! And when Granny finally gets to hold Asher for the first time, we want a picture!!!
Love ‘n hugs, dear friend.

Hehehe! Like some of us, and I suspect you are in this category, Colleen, Matt might be 62 on the outside but feel more like a 10 year old on the inside now that he has those cars to play with. And he freely admits that he plays with them. He’s something else and I love him for it!

Hahahaha indeed! I have a finger skateboard I keep in my kitchen window so I can play with it while I’m in the kitchen contemplating adulthood.

Have you decided whether or not to indulge in adulthood yet Colleen? I tried it for a while but much prefer ignoring it now. Lots more fun this way.

I haven’t decided….it seems too complicated. 🙂
